Gérard Drouot began his career in event management in Reims in 1974 by creating the association ‘Musique Action Reims’.
Through this association, he introduced the Reims public to artists as varied as Magma, Gong, The Clash, Memphis Slim, Archie Shepp and The Brotherhood of Breath, led by the South African pianist Chris McGregor. On Friday 13 September 1974, he got the whole town and beyond buzzing when he co-produced with Assaad Debs (today a producer at Corida) a concert featuring Nico and Tangerine Dream at Reims Cathedral.
At the end of 1977, he was taken on as the artistic and production director at the Harry Lapp Organisation in Strasbourg, where he remained for several years. He organised tours by Murray Head, Indochine, U2, Charlélie Couture, Etienne Daho and Frankie goes to Hollywood among others. In 1986, while still in Strasbourg, he finally created his own company, which he transferred to Paris in 1988.
Since then, Gérard Drouot Productions has staged shows by the biggest national and international artists, including Patricia Kaas, Native, De Palmas, Kassav, Axelle Red, U2, AC/DC, Joe Satriani, Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, R. It has also organised events like the Amnesty International celebrations in 1988 and 1998 at Bercy to mark the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Pavarotti concerts in Orange in 1990 and at the Champ de Mars in Paris in 1992.
It regularly stages concerts by the greatest names in jazz, including Sonny Rollins, Diana Krall, Keith Jarrett, Pat Metheny and Dave Brubeck.
