Both a legend of hard bop guitar and a singer of hits such as ‘Give me the night’ and ‘Turn your love around’, George Benson is also a towering jazz figure, whose instrumental albums of the 1960s and 1970s like Breezin sold millions of copies.
But his talent transcends the boundaries of the jazz world – he also explores R&B, rock and pop and incorporates funk and soul rhythms to his music. Winner of eight Grammy Awards, George Benson remains an unpredictable and eclectic artist and the direct heir of the elegance of Wes Montgomery. George Benson continues to impress with pieces such as ‘Givin' it up’ from 2006, recorded with long-time friend Al Jarreau. On his latest album Songs and Stories, released in 2009 and co-produced by the renowned bassist/composer Marcus Miller, the musical art of George Benson has never been showcased to better effect.
Over thirty years after he first started adding his voice to the sound he was making with his guitar, George Benson is continuing to travel the world, instrument in hand, doing some hundred concerts a year.
