With his sensual and pure vocal style, this American singer has been transforming rock ballads into hymns to love – such as the unforgettable ‘Wicked Game’ – since the mid-1980s.
Chris Isaak, the writer, songwriter, musician and actor, signed to Warner Brothers Records in 1984 and released his album Silvertone. But his first success came in France, with his second, eponymous, album, which contains the track ‘Blue Hotel’, which reached number one in 1987. In 1989 he recorded Heart Shaped World, containing the singles ‘Wicked Game’, a world-wide hit, and ‘Kings Of The Highway’, which was used in a special dairy products advertising campaign. A fan of Elvis and Roy Orbison, Chris Isaak takes his inspiration from his heroes, excelling as both a crooner and in rockabilly ballads. During the 1990s he had hit album after hit album, including San Francisco Day (1993), Forever Blue (1995) and Speak Of The Devil (1998). He has worked on soundtracks for films including Eyes Wide Shut with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman and Chasing Liberty and music for shows such as The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Chris Isaak has acted in several films, for example Little Buddha (1993), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992), The Silence of the Lambs (1991) and A Dirty Shame (2004). He has also appeared in the TV series Friends.
Chris Isaak’s latest album, Beyond the Sun, came out in 2011 and is still available.
